Iran clinched their fifth consecutive Asian Indoor Games men’s futsal gold

Iran men’s national futsal team won the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games Futsal title for a fifth consecutive time, when it thrashed Uzbekistan 7-1 in the men’s gold medal game at the Multifunctional Sport Venue on Tuesday 26 September.

Iran became the most obvious candidate for the gold after it was known that in the final match Iranian national team, which remained sixth among world futsal teams according to the latest classification published by the AMF, will meet the team of Uzbekistan, standing on the 35th line of the world standings.

Iran were unbeaten in all their six matches and scored 58 total goals in the Ashgabat 2017 tournament. The victory moves Iran to 5th position in the world rankings.

The closing ceremony of the Fifth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games took place on 27 September at the Olympic Stadium in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. Overall, seventeen men’s and seven women’s national teams took part in the Asian Games’ Futsal tournament. The futsal tournament in Ashgabat was the longest of all other sports at the Games, it lasted for 10 days.

After an intense and tight battle with Afghanistan man’s national futsal team in the match for third place, Japan took the bronze medal with a 3-1 penalty shoot-out win.

In the women’s futsal tournament, Thai players won gold medals by beating the Japanese team 3:1 in the finals. In the match for bronze medals, Iran women’s national futsal team also thrashed the Chinese side 5:1.
