Futsal officially entered the Olympic stage

Today we want to share with you an iconic Futsal Story! This Sunday, October 7, became a ground-breaking date that went down in the history of futsal, as the discipline made its debut as an Olympic sport following a long fight for it to be a part of the Olympic programme. And Spain’s Noelia de las Heras had the honor to score the first futsal goal in Olympic history on the opening day of the Women’s Youth Olympic Futsal Tournaments, which was also the first in a FIFA women’s futsal tournament.

From the very first Youth Olympic Games in 2010, football was part of the program, but this year, in Buenos Aires, it was decided to hold a futsal tournament instead. The futsal competition at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics feature a men’s and a women’s futsal tournament scheduled to be played between 7 and 18 October 2018. The tournaments take place at Tecnopolis in Villa Martelli and the CeNARD in Buenos Aires. Overall, 48 games will be played between the women’s and men’s competitions. Here you can find the detailed match schedule. Almost all matches will be streamed live on FIFA.com. Streaming starts 10 minutes before the kick-off of each live match, with commentary provided in English and Spanish.
